Last night was the opening reception to my solo show titled "Linear." Also at TCNJ there were three other gallery openings in the art department as well. A lot of people showed up and my work was generally well received. I was asked a lot of questions about installation art in general, (since most people have never experienced installation art). One guy walked in and asked me, "is there anything else in this gallery or is this it?" Clearly he didn't get it haha.
I was also being a dork and decided to paint my nails to match my art :)
& today was the first official day of student teaching. The day started off as a giant party pretty much. The school was giving out beaded necklaces to the kids, we had balloons and decorations all over the school and even the school mascot made appearance on the front lawn as kids were coming into school.
We did pretty basic things on the first day. The fourth and fifth graders we taught them how to make an art journal for them to use for various assignments throughout the year. We then moved across the street (literally) to the K-3 school to have a 3, 1, & kindergarten class in the afternoon. We did a quick self portrait with the third grade. And a simple coloring activity with the K&1. Our schedule is different every day so tomorrow it will be pretty much the same thing (in fact the same thing for the next few days), until we see all the multiple grade level's classes.
I still haven't decided how I'm going to run this blog. As for right now, I don't think it will be daily because most of the days are just repeating the same thing but with different groups of kids.
Maybe when I get more into teaching independently I will post daily. But for now I think it will be a weekly if not biweekly posting.
