I'm bad at this title thing. But week two is over and I have some more updates!
Midterms are over. The students are still finishing up their projects from before midterms and should be done by mid next week.
This week I was busy working on project examples for the lessons I plan to teach.
My drawing 1 class is going to be completing a stippling project with the theme of animals. I chose a Goliath Beetle for my example.
My painting 1 class will be starting animal paintings with acrylic paint. Here is my example on Masonite with a hedgehog.
On Monday I'm going to be starting an installation project with all of my classes. Our schedule is strange at the school and the kids rotate their classes every day. It's hard to explain, I don't understand it and probably won't get it until the last day of my placement haha. But on Monday the class period is only like 35 minutes compared to the 55 that each other day is, so we are going to be doing something different. I will be introducing myself more formally and talking about myself as well as my art. I'll teach the classes about installation art since most have probably never heard of it. I'm going to show them a few artists and then we are going to make our own installation with Post-it's. This installation will be a way to get to know the students better as well.
Each student will get two post its and have to create one self portrait on one and then a collage of images that represent them on the other.
We will display them on the display boards in the back of the room.
Here are my post-it examples.
As you can see I put mine up on the boards already.
When it's done hopefully it'll look something along the lines of this.
Once a week artist Mel Leipzig comes in and works on a painting of some of the students and staff of Lawrence High School. He has been working on this series for a while and is currently finishing up the piece with Mr. Carney (my co-operating teacher). I had Mel as a professor at MCCC so it was nice to see him again.
Here is a pano of our classroom from the back of the room.
A photo of my doodling while the students are busy making art.
A student had made this for us on Friday. We had a good laugh about it.
This week I'm feeling: museum job.
