I'm a little delayed on posting this past weeks blog. But better late than never!!
On Monday all of the classes participated in a collaborative installation using Post-it notes.
I formally introduced myself and talked about my work as well as what installation art is, since many of the kids haven't heard of it. I showed a few contemporary artists' work and then we went ahead and created our own classroom installation.
The classes seemed to have fun with it. It was at least something that they weren't used to doing.
A few students asked me how I make money since most of my work doesn't exist anymore. I was like, hmm excellent question. That's something I'm working on brainstorming ideas about with my co-operating teacher.
I also put together a display board for the black history month concert that will be happening this month. The works that the kids created came out great. (I wasn't here for the creation of these artworks, just helped display them).
I also got word this week from one of the grad schools I applied to. Parsons in NYC wants to have a Skype interview with me in two weeks. Pretty exciting. Not officially accepted yet, but I imagine as long as this interview goes well, acceptance will come next.
Very difficult to work with tape pieces that are 1/8th of an inch.
This past weekend I also went to Orlando, FL for an art show that I was in. My piece was a performance piece. It was a recreation of my "Paper Doll," performance from 2014. I will post photos from the show a little later. For now, just some photos of FL/ other artists in the show.
About to start another short week this week. It may even be shorter than a four day week because of the predicted snow for tonight/ tomorrow. We shall see!
This week I'm feeling: museum job/ grad school.
Surprised my feelings haven't changed for a few weeks. Interesting...
